AISI 416Se classifies as a free-machining martensitic stainless that exhibits outstanding machinability and corrosion resistance. Chromium, silicon, manganese, sulfur, carbon, phosphorus, and iron are a typical set of elements that make up its chemical makeup. Selenium inclusion in copper alloy has not only improved its fabricability but also makes it compatible to be used in machining parts that need more intricate machining. This grade is resistant to medium temperature, freshwater, organic acids, and alkalies environment ,although it is not recommend to be used in such conditions with chlorides or high temperature. AISI 416Se is considered as suitable material in industries like automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing machines. Corrosion resistance is one of its properties and hence it is used in fabricating bolts, nuts, shafts, and valves. Technical drawings and instructional leaflets are provided below as anyone can able to download PDFs describing the grade specifications and chemical properties of door handle for our customers.
AISI 416Se is a marcensteelic stainless steel, it is famous for its high machinability and resistance to corrosion. The chemical composition is normally around 0.15% of carbon, 1.25% of manganese, 12-14% chromium, 0.15-0.35% of silicon, 0.06% of phosphorus, 0.15% of sulfur and selenium is added for better machinability. This grade of steel offers good mechanical properties and further improvement can be obtained by heat treating it. Applications of it can be found in automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing sectors where these characteristics, such as high machinability, and corrosion resistance, are valued in components such as parts.

Advantages:
Improved Machinability: Addition of selenium enhances machinability, reducing tool wear.
Moderate Corrosion Resistance: Exhibits improved corrosion properties compared to AISI 416.
Heat Treatable: Can be heat treated to achieve desired hardness and strength.
Ease of Fabrication: Simple to process into intricate structures and parts.
Disadvantages:
Limited Corrosion Resistance: Prone to rust and corrosion in hostile environments.
Lower Toughness: Less tough than austenitic stainless steel.
Weldability Challenges: May compromise corrosion resistance and risk cracking if welding parameters aren't well managed.
Cost: Generally more expensive due to inclusion of selenium.
