AISI 385 Stainless Steel Chemical Composition & Properties, Grade, Chart and Document

AISI 385 is an austenitic steel that obtained the recognition for its stainless performance in a wide range of environments. The chemical composition varies among different types of steel, but generally, it contains iron, chromium, and nickel, with around 18-20% chromium and 8-10% nickel while other elements like manganese, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, and carbon, are also commonly present in smaller quantities. This composition characteristic provides unparalleled protection against corrosion which makes it very suitable to be used in situations when the environment is either chemically aggressive, like the corrosive conditions of oceans or chemical processes plants, or otherwise harsh. AISI 385 is available in different grades produced for a variety of usages, providing flexibility and stability through all projects. Engineers and designers may find themselves looking at complete charts and technical PDF documents that explain the properties and grade specification of stainless steel, in order to select the most suitable type of steel for their application.

AISI 385 Austenitic Stainless Steel Chemical Composition And Grade Table

AISI 385 is an austenitic stainless steel from all the other types which is known for its excellent corrosion resistance and durability. Its chemical formula usually has much of these components like chromium, nickel and molybdenum, which improve its ability to endure in corrosive environments. The specific formula will slightly change based on different manufacturers, however the main composition includes about 18 to 20 percent chromium, 9 to 11 percent nickel, and 2 to 3 percent molybdenum. This combination of factors renders the material immunity to corrosion, hence making it usable in harsh conditions including marine, industrial and chemical environments. AISI 385 is used widely in components which must stand the test of time in applications with maximum durability.
